Developing a new communications manager role

The brief: Joining at a time when the charity had no dedicated marketing function, I took on an interim, three days per week contract to develop the role of communications manager.

How I helped:  This included advising on and developing a communications and influencing strategy and delivering a campaign to push for access to neuroblastoma treatments for children and young people.  I planned and delivered all fundraising and research media relations and PR activity, resulting in coverage in a number of national and local TV, radio and newspaper outlets. I created all content for and managed the charity’s social media platforms and website; plus wrote, edited and produced content for the charity’s corporate publications.

Towards the end of my six months with SKC, I helped the charity recruit successfully for a permanent communications manager, enabling a smooth transition.

“Ali’s fantastic! A super consultant, communications professional and team player; she was a real asset during her time with us. Ali took on a very busy and demanding interim role, which required a broad range of communication skills and experience. She hit the ground running and absolutely delivered! She’s brilliant at juggling and prioritising and at building strong relationships; she’s got bags of energy and enthusiasm; always rises to a challenge and produces quality work quickly. Her impact was significant in the relatively little time she had with us.”
